Analysis of results by perceived affluence
Separate tests were conducted to verify that attitude toward economizing is
independent of income. The survey measured ``perceived affluence'' rather than
actual income to provide comparables across cultures. The ANOVA tests
indicated that there was no relationship between perceived affluence and
attitude toward spending (F = 0.888 (df = 4), p > 0.10). Separate tests were
conducted for each nationality to determine whether there was any relationship
with either Indians or Americans. Both results were insignificant: (Indians: F =
0.862 (df = 4), p > 0.10; Americans: F = 0.113 (df = 4), p > 0.10). The conclusion
was that attitude toward spending is not related to perceived affluence
