Spectroscopic andphysicalpropertiesofHo3+ doped multi-componentglasssystemsinvaryingmolar
compositions of xBi2O3–(50−x) PbO–25MgHPO4–24B2O3–1Ho2O3 (where x¼10,20,30,and40)havebeen
investigated.OpticalabsorptionspectrahavebeenusedtodetermineRacahcoefficients (E1, E2 and E3),
Slater Condonparameters(F2, F4 and F6), spin–orbit couplingparameters(ξ4f), andconfiguration
interactionparameters(α and β). Theratiosof E1/E3 and E2/E3 do notdeviatemuchfromthehydrogenic
ratios. Opticalbasicityoftheglassesisestimated.TheJudd–Ofelt parameters(Ω2, Ω4 and Ω6) were
computed fromtheintensitiesoftheenergylevels.Theradiativelifetimes(τR), branchingratios(β) and
absorption crosssections(sa) wereevaluatedforthelasinglevels 5I8-5G6, 5F2, 5F3, 5F4, 5F5, 5I6, and
5I7. Theemissioncrosssections(se) forthesignificant lasingtransitions 5F4-5I8, 5F5-5I8 and 5S2-5I7
evaluatedfromthephotoluminescencespectraarereported.Thelasingpotenciesestimatedforallthe
glasses understudyindicatelasingactioninthecwaswellasinpulsedregime.
