Nearly all (95%) of maternal deaths averted would be
in low-income or lower-middle-income countries
(figure 5). Two-thirds of the reduction in deaths would
be in sub-Saharan Africa. Most of the child deaths
averted (61%) would also be in sub-Saharan Africa,
where under-5 mortality rates are highest, and in south
Asia (31%), where absolute numbers of deaths are
