Security agencies reported in the media on 18 January that a group of resource-equipped, trained incendiaries is preparing to cause violence at rally sites, with accomplices that transport the weapons to their networks. A security guard based at the rally site of the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (NSPRT) on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue was hospitalised by a gunshot from an unknown shooter in the late evening of 19 January. Independent journalist and writer Andrew MacGregor Marshall has expressed his belief that "They [PDRC] know that they cannot win the February elections, so they will do all they can to prevent the polls from taking place" in a January 14 CNN opinion piece, concluding: "the prognosis for Thailand is depressingly bleak.
