Our aim for this project was to represent, in a micro piece of architecture, the character and the spirit of the city. Chicago is synonymous with steel - a timeless material so common nowadays that we tend to forget its qualities: great recyclable potential, strength and durability, functional honesty and ability to age gracefully. Placed in a privileged space of transition from the vast natural lake and the large industrial city, the little kiosk extends outwards to create atmospheric in-between spaces. Unlike a typical kiosk; our proposal has neither back nor front and is accessible from every angle. During the winter season, when the service is suspended, the kiosk remains as a sculpture or event space. The iconic skyline of the city is the very source of inspiration for this project. In collaboration with Sarah Markert and Klaas De Rycke.
