With reference to the subjective measure of social class,
nearly two-thirds (63.0%) of respondents identified themselves as ‘‘middle,’’ 31.8% saw themselves as ‘‘middle low’’ or ‘‘low’’
class, and 5.2% viewed themselves as ‘‘middle high’’ or ‘‘high’’ class. In addition, the largest proportion of the subsample lived
in two-person households (40.7%), followed by one-person households (27.7%), while 31.6% of respondents were living in
households with three or more persons
