Abstract - manufdcture of leather fumiture involves scvenl processes. Of
p&dm interest to us is the nesting and cuiting prmsses. The nesting problem
in the leather industry is the problem of pladng a set of irregularly shaped pieces
(called remphtes) on a plane irreyLvly shaped surface, such that no temphtes
ovedap and that the aim loss produced when cutdog out the templates is
"ised. The current manual nesdng pmcess has many shortcomings that
results in low productivity. In order m o v e r ~meth e shortcomings, automation
has bcen introduced in the leather cutting process. ?his paper discwsef the
automadon of the leather cutting process and the productivity improvement as a
direct result of it.
