Android devices need to be “hardened,” with security built into the device. A critical component of
hardening Android-based systems is a root of trust. Roots of trust are components that are
inherently trusted and secure by design, ideally implemented in silicon. Essentially, the root of trust
provides a “known good” position to assess the integrity of the mobile devices, its OS and its
components. Beginning with this known good position, additional security services can be provided
such as boot firmware protection, validated system boot, application control, secure storage, and
attestation.
