As such, this study identified the relationship between argumentation skills and NOS
in relation to the same controversial socioscientific issues, that is, using one instrument.
In particular, this research answered the following two questions:
(1) Is there a relationship between high school students’ understandings about NOS
aspects and their argumentation skills in the context of two controversial socioscientific
issues?
(2) Is the response pattern about argumentation skills and NOS aspects similar for the
two different controversial socioscientific issues?
