5.9.10 Attaching Slings
The attachment of a sling to a load will normally fall into one of following four categories;
• Straight lift: this is achieved by direct coupling of the sling to the load or shackle eyebolt etc. secured to the load.
• Basket hitch: a sling arrangement by which the sling is passed under or through a load and hook back to the ring.
• Choke hitch: this is formed by hooking a leg of a sling back on itself, thus forming a noose. A similar result may be achieved by the use of a choke or reeving sling. Hammering down on a choke hitch to provide a better grip creates an included angle greater than 90° and must not be permitted.
