3.5. FAME composition
FAME profile in the reaction product was determined by GC-2010
and the results are summarized in Table 5. Oleic acid methyl ester
(C18:1, 39.11%) was the most abundant FAME followed by palmitic
acid methyl ester (C16:0, 23.87%) and linoleic acid methyl ester
(C18:2, 14.97%). The type and amount of FAMEs obtained in this
experiment were similar to our previous results obtained from
Y. lipolytica Po1g using the two-step process [30]. Higher amounts
of saturated and monounsaturated FAMEs were obtained from of
the yeast and the profile is also similar to those FAME profiles from
vegetable oil as feedstock. Hence Y. lipolytica Po1g biomass is a potential
candidate for biodiesel production.
