According to the Kuala Lumpur-based architect Brian Quirk, “one eye sees, the other feels.” One could call this the guiding impulse of Quirk’s sensual design for the Elysian Villa Boutique Hotel. Each of the 27 private villas is its own “mini-retreat,” boasting a private pool that wraps around a modern version of the traditional Balinese “bale,” or patio. A timber sun deck with sun loungers lends privacy for getting that perfect tan. Quirk’s use of natural materials such as volcanic stones, raw teak, timber and slate pay homage to the rich traditions of the location. They were also chosen for their ability to age well, ensuring that as the property matures, the more it will seem like a small village that has always been there.
