A rather insignificant uprising of the nobility and their backers attempted depose her, but the people and the military supported her, which confirmed for Wu her authority and power. She decided it was time for her to take the throne for herself alone. After all, she had made the decisions and had shouldered almost full responsibility for thirty years. Only the title of Huang-ti (Emperor) would give her that full confirmation. It would have been easy for her to exercise power, presumably on behalf of her son. Instead, she chose to have her position officially confirmed, and began to prepare to receive the Mandate of Heaven for herself.
