During the 17-month surveillance period, a total of 516 air
samples were collected (Table 1). During period A, 66.7% of
fungal cultures were positive in rooms 1 and 2, and 44.4% in
room 3. The mean concentration of viable fungi in the air was
2.3 cfu/m
3
in room 2 and almost 6 cfu/m
3
in rooms 1 and 3.
During period B, at the date of the move, a dramatic increase
in the fungal load was observed in the three rooms (40 to 160
cfu/m
3
). During the 16-month period after the resumption of
mycological activities (period C), almost 50% of fungal cul-tures were positive in the three rooms. Fungal loads were 4.5
and 4.7 cfu/m
3
in rooms 1 and 2, but showed no significant
difference with regard to the higher value observed in room 3
(8.4 cfu/m
3
).
