determinations for energy savings are based on units of energy lossfor each type of existing standard lighting sets (fluorescent T8 tubelamp and low watt loss electromagnetic ballast) and replace newlighting sets (fluorescent T5 tube lamp and electronic ballast). Thepercentage of total harmonic voltage distortion (%THDv) and thepercentage of total harmonic current distortion (%THDi) are mea-sured as an index for an efficiency determination of the lightingsystem. In addition, in terms of illuminance, the fluorescent T5tube lamp is compared with fluorescent T8 tube lamp using theDIALux program. Finally, the obtained results from the analysiswill be useful for the selection and decision to install the fluo-rescent T5 tube lamp with electronic ballast for lighting systemsin buildings. The remainder of this paper is organized as follows:Section 2 presents the simulation and illuminance results. Then,the experimental setup and harmonic measurements are shown inSection 3. The designed passive low-pass filter is used to reduce theharmonics issued from the electronic ballast of the fluorescent T5tube lamp, and the results are presented in Section 4.
