Clearly, the homology is extremely high also at the DNA level, (not shown) indicating an authentic homology rather than a high conservation at the protein level (not shown).
Furthermore, while the degree of homology outside the seven conserved helicase motifs is usually very weak among the helicase families, SUVi and BACH1 maintain high levels of similarity in regions adjacent to the helicase domain I.
For instance, the same nuclear localization signal (NLS) is detected in both
proteins at approximately the same position (Fig. 1,underlined).
In other helicases, the putative NLS is placed at different location along the protein chain.
