Iain Macintosh reviews the second round of games in the international break to bring us this week's edition of Heroes and Villains.
HEROES
There are many ways to celebrate a goal. Robbie Keane used to have a head-over-heels-and-open-fire routine. Cristiano Ronaldo favours the ostentatious display of the name on his shirt, on the off chance there's someone out there who doesn't know who he is. Paul Pogba, by contrast, knows that less is more. After spanking the ball past Dutch goalie Maarten Stekelenburg from a range of about three miles, the French midfielder simply stood and nodded to himself. "Yes. I did that. That was me. Now tell me again how I'm a waste of money."
Tossed into a group with Spain and Euro 2016 heartthrobs Albania, Italy's path to Russia isn't exactly brightly lit and well-maintained. If Giampiero Ventura is to avoid doing something no Italy manager has done since 1958 -- fail to qualify for the World Cup -- there can't be any slip-ups. And so Ventura is indebted to striker Ciro Immobile for his late brace that turned a humiliating 1-2 defeat to Macedonia into a 3-2 win. This could have been awkward.
