Herein, we develop a facile method for the synthesis of abifunctional zirconium-based catalyst Zr−S−F possessing bothLA and BA by a one-pot hydrothermal method with zirconiumsalts, biomass, and sulfo functional compound. The Lewisacidity and Brønsted acidity can be modified by differentbiomasses. Consequently, the Zr−S−F catalyst with properLewis acidity and Brønsted acidity can produce 2,5-bis-(isopropoxymethyl)furan (BPMF) from HMF with a yield of92.4% at 120°C. Notably, the sophisticated synthesis processand energy-intensive calcination for the preparation of thecatalyst are avoided in the present work. In addition, thetransformation pathway of HMF was investigated andproposed
