What bothers me most when I see an unsolicited redesign of an application like Facebook is the use of cheesy, albeit perfect, stock photography for user content. We’ve all done it to some extent before: searched Google Images for a profile picture or snagged one from iStockPhoto.com. It’s true that these are often just placeholder images, but while we may be showing what’s ideal, is it realistic? Does the design hold up with “ordinary” photos?
