Introduction: Does it include general statements?
Is there a thesis statement?
Body. Does it give similarities and then differences,
with points in the same order for each thing?
Are different transitions used to show comparison and contrast?
Conclusion. Does it summarize main points or state your thesis again in other words?
Is there a final comment on the topic?
Paragraph organization
Topic Sentences: Does each body paragraph have a topic sentence with a controlling idea? Supporting Sentences: Is each paragraph about one main idea?
Do your sentences support topic your sentence?
5. Edit your essay.
Work with a partner or a teacher to edit your essay. Correct spelling. punctuation, vocabulary, and grammar. Read your rough draft and try to find errors in the use of connectors.
Example:
Error: Unless beef and chicken are popular in New Mexico, conn
fish is more popular in Massachusetts.
Correct. Whereas beef and chicken are popular in New Mexico,
fish is more popular in Massachusetts.
When you find a mistake of this type, you can mark it with the symbd"conn" (connector). Look at page 207 for other symbols to use when editing your work.
