Early adopters, such as Best Buy, have agreed to contribute their “green tech” assets to the pool and, in turn, they hope to benefit from innovations contributed by new participants as they join. Other disruptors, such as Tesla, have gone a step further and placed all of their patents in "the commons.” This is "sharing” in the true sense of the word and, rather than being some kind of new socialism, delivers big advantages to the sharer. For Tesla, it helps build up the electric car ecosystem against its gas-guzzling competitors.
