A detailed clinical examination confirmed abnormalities of
the eyes, skin and mucous membranes, and also revealed a
right-sided palpable cervical lymph node with red, enlarged
tonsils. He was clinically diagnosed with KD and was treated
with intravenous immunoglobulin (hourly observation was
carried out during administration) and oral aspirin. Nursing
monitoring and management on the ward included 4-hourly
pulse rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and temperature
checks, and completion of the Paediatric Early Warnmg
Score, which did not show any deterioration. Emotional
support for the parents was provided by the nursing team,
who also ensured that the family was kept up to date with
the boy's clinical progress. Over the next 36 hours he
gradually became afebrile and was kept under observation
