Some of species commonly occurring in the ant nest plots in the present study are potentially dispersed by wind for substantial distances (i.e. at least 5 m, often considerably further). It is quite striking that frequently recorded Asteraceae with a pappus (Carduus pycnocephalus, Launaea mucronata, Picris babylonica and Senecio glaucus) are distinctly more common in the ant nest plots than in the control areas.
