Analyzing the effectiveness of preventive
measures revealed that tackling all determinants
can reduce the prevalence
of overweight by 77.7%(95%CI: 76.7–78.8)
(= joint AR), that is, a decrease from
13.4% to 3.0%. The relative contributions
of each determinant (partial AR) are
given in Table 3. Parental overweight (and
obesity) and high media time reached
highest partial ARs. By successfully
treating and/or preventing parental
overweight, the prevalence of childhood
overweight is reduced by 42.5% (by 5.7
percentage points). Social determinants
ranked second with a partial AR of 14.3%
(–1.9 percentage points) followed by
media time (–11.4% or –1.5 percentage
points). Preventing early life risks had
the smallest effect (–9.5% or –1.3 percentage
points). Tackling early life risks
andmedia time only (ie, the preventrisks, model 2), media time had the
strongest effect on reducing overweight
(Table 3). Eliminating all preventable
risk factors together reduced overweight
by 31.4% (95% CI: 28.2–34.2).
Thus, the prevalence of overweight
decreased by 4.2 percentage points
