Fantastic art is an art genre that explores the absurd, bizarre, imaginary, whimsical, and grotesque, as well as many other themes that could be characterized as "out of this world." Examination of "the other" is the focus of Fantastic art that challenges the idea of abnormality through a wide range of creative imagery. The roots of Fantastic art stem from the representations of heaven and hell and everything in between in movements and styles such as Romanesque art, the Baroque movement, and the Age of Enlightenment. However, the use of fantasy in art can be traced to period as early as the origins of Egyptian mythology. This style of expression has been a predominant approach in the arts, each time taking on a different form and role. Hieronymus Bosch, a Dutch painter (circa 1450-1516), demonstrates use of symbolism and fantastical imagery in a triptych titled The Garden of Earthly Delights.
