sample of 0.3 g was added into 500 ml of aqueous
solution of phenol with concentration of 0.05 g/l.
UV irradiation was conducted from the top of the solution
by using six lamps with 20W power (Philips,
The Netherlands). The solution was mixed with a magnetic
stirrer during reaction process. To determine the
change of phenol concentration in the solution during
UV irradiation, a few millilitres of the solution was
taken from the reaction mixture and loaded in UV-Vis
spectrometer (Jasco V-530, Japan). The phenol concentration
was measured from the absorbance at the
wavelength of 270 nm by using a calibration curve.
Phenol removal was also carried out without UV irradiation
in order to know the adsorption of phenol into
the samples. Photolysis effect on the phenol degradation
by UV rays was checked without catalyst.
The measurements of FT-IR/DRS spectra of catalysts
before and after phenol decomposition were performed
with Jasco 430 IR spectrometer (Japan).
