Silkscreen printing (see page 76) panels and graphic surfaces is a far more labour-intensive, high-budget process than producing prints digitally. It does, however, produce a sharp image in beautifully flat, hard and durable inks that can be matched to the PANTONE system, unlike digital output, which can only simulate PANTONE colours with varying results. Silkscreening also makes it possible to print directly onto glossy, curved surfaces. The use of ‘tough inks’ eliminates the need for protective sealing, and allows matt and gloss finishes to be mixed.
