Along the west side of the extrusion building, built in 1968, accentuated settlements were observed from
1985. These caused problems to operation of the lamination equipment, sensitive to differential settlements, and affected 2 metallic columns. Boring campaigns in 1988 and 1989 indicated, along the west facade, basic contamination extending to depths of about 14 m. The probable leaks occurred in the underground pipes running in the same alignment as
well as in the cleaning tanks. In 1989 an extensive cement grouting operation was carried out for subsoil consolidation and filling of holes, and the pipes and cleaning tanks moved to other positions.
