One of Robin Williams' most memorable roles is the raucous army DJ in Good Morning, Vietnam, the 1987 movie filmed largely in Thailand. Thai actress Jintara Sukhapat played in a supporting role as a student...
Thailand stood in for Saigon before it fell, so Williams was here shooting with director Barry Levinson. The locations included Ratchadamnoen Avenue, Charoen Krung Road (where you can notice a gaffe: a Thai-language sign in what's supposed to be Vietnam), Phaya Thai Road, Nakhon Pathom and Phuket (the farewell scene in the field).
Playing Adrian Cronauer, Williams fires up improvisatory comic monologues as a radio DJ in a hostile, war-torn situation, before he eventually reveals the subtler human emotion inside. He earned his first Oscar nomination from the role, which remains one of the best in his career.
