Leaves of a wild C. annuum accession
nr. CGN 21526 (provided by Centre for Genetic Resources, Wageningen
University e NL), cultivated in open field at the Research
Centre's experimental farm of Battipaglia (SA), were harvested,
dried at 70 C and ground. Powdered leaves were extracted by four
different systems. Plant material (10 g) was processed by autoclaving
it in 100 mL of water (AW) or by soaking it, separately, in
100 mL of water (W), ethanol (EteOH) or ethyl acetate (Et-OAc) for
24 h at room temperature. Each extract was then filtered through
two layers of Whatman No.
