With the growth in financial services and the passing of the Financial Services Act 1986 it became clear that BIBA would have to alter its scope if it was to remain the main representative body of both general and life brokers. In 1987 it changed its name to the British Insurance and Investment Brokers Association. In this way it continued to attract registered with FIMBRA, (see later), as authorised to carry on any kind of inversment business.
