Anaerobic digestion (AD) is an attractive technology in tropical regions for converting locally abundant
biomass wastes into biogas which can be used to produce heat, electricity, and transportation fuels.
Large amounts of biomass waste
are generated each year from agricultural, forestry, and food systems
in tropical regions, such as Eastern Africa (Ferrey, 2006;
Otieno and Awange, 2006; Scheffran, 2010)
