In the last years, concerns about the health risks associated with solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure have increased considerably. Skin burns, photosensitivity, premature aging or even skin cancer are some of the main harmful effects that an overexposure to sunlight can cause. As a result, there are nowadays many cosmetic products, in addition to those exclusively designed for sun protection (i.e., sunscreens), that contain UV filters as ingredients in their formulation, taking advantage of their capacity to absorb
or reflect in both UVA and UVB ranges . The compounds that can be used as UV filters in cosmetic products, and their maximum allowed concentrations are regulated by the legislations in force in
each country
