Unlike most kings of Siam, King Taksin, formerly called 'Sin,' was the son of a Chinese family. When he was a novice monk, Sin and his close friend Thongduang always made their rounds for food offerings together. One day, they met a Chinese fortune-teller who laughed to himself when he saw the monks. Sin and Thongduang asked him what was wrong. He said that he was very excited to see two kings walking together. He than walked away and left the monks standing there bewildered. Incredibly, the two monks that the fortune-teller was talking to later became King Taksin and King Rama l.
