Two studies involving 1502 women reported the occurrence of endometritis (pyrexia
≥38 °C confirmed on two separate occasions and accompanied by pain on mobilization
of the uterus or fetid lochia, and/or a leukocytosis of more than 10 000/mm3
) (89, 91).
Fernandez and colleagues reported lower occurrence of endometritis among women
receiving amoxicillin-clavulanate compared to those receiving no treatment (OR 0.27,
95% CI 0.09 to 0.83) (91). Among women receiving methylergometrine, occurrence of
endometritis was not significantly different from those receiving placebo (211 women; OR
1.96, 95% CI 0.18 to 21.97) (89).
