The workplace audits identified infection control hazards in all three
hospitals (Table I). It was observed that sharps containers were either
not available at point of use or were overflowing in 8/9 audited units,
N95® respirators were not used correctly in six units, there were few or
no N95® respirators in five units and there were no disposal towels, and/
or the soap dispensers were empty or clogged, in five of the units.
However, model infection control practices were also documented.
