Making a doctor's appointment has become easier with technology. To improve healthcare efficiency, state-run Rama Hospital has added a new communication channel with their patients, who can now make or change appointments using a mobile application called Rama Appointment.
Announced as a pilot project among public hospitals, Rama Appointment is a collaboration between Ramathibodi Hospital and the Electronic Government Agency (EGA).
"In order to shorten the time patients have to spend at the hospital, after the examination, patients can go home without waiting for a document for the appointment," said Asis Unyapoth, EGA vice-president of Application Development and Management.
This can shorten the process, since patients have to wait to complete several steps at state hospitals, including time spent to receive an appointment slip.
The Rama Appointment app was developed to facilitate users of iOS and Android. Users who have not yet subscribed as members can access it for general information of the hospital such as news, the Rama Channel and others, while those who have subscribed can access their appointment lists or doctors via the app. Once a user has requested for postponing an appointment, the hospital will send a message back within 24 hours, then he/she can interact with the officials about details.
The hospital officials, meanwhile, can inform patients about the appointment postponement and send hospital announcements. The app will also send alert messages as well as SMS or email when the appointment is approaching.
Assoc Prof Thanya Subhadrabandhu, deputy dean for Service of Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital Mahidol University, says that those who already have their patient records with the hospital, as well as the public, can subscribe for the service by verifying with their 13 digit ID number plus personal data.
The service subscription at present is reserved for Thai nationals only as they can be verified by the registration records with the Department of Provincial Administration.
