After this fire incident, it was reported that the Insured contacted the manufacturer of the Sandvik stainless steel belts in Sweden in order to resume their production as soon as practicable.
Although they continued their manufacturing process it produced poor end products contaminated with scraps and rejected by their Quality Control as the result of the aftermath of the fire damage. Therefore, we considered that the Sandvik stainless steel belts required replacement.
Sandvik Process Systems Division carried out inspection on the subject components to evaluate the extent of the damage and their report dated 29thAugust 2015 stated that:
Quote
“Fire accident on the 22nd of May at approximate time 1545 hours. Sandvik evaluates the extent of damage incurred. The fire is suspected to have triggered from sparks coming from the side trim saw at the discharge conveyor” (page 1)
“B) The intense heat from the fire had caused the belts to severely distorted and especially at the edges where numerous cracks were also visible. Most cracks were located within approximately 200 mm. from the edges. This is for the reason that the steel drum and tracking rollers are applying force on the edges during the tracking of the belt. (The belts are always tracking during revolution in order to maintain at centre of the press).
