Signals that induce neuronal apoptosis activate Biminduced
cell death by either inducing the expression of Bim
or by stimulating post-translational modifications in Bim.
A number of transcription factors including c-Jun, a target
of JNK, and FOXO3a mediate the upregulation of Bim
expression (Gilley et al., 2003; Harris and Johnson, 2001;
Linseman et al., 2002). The JNK signaling pathway also
directly activates Bim via phosphorylation (see below). In
