2.8. Wind generation
In an ideal EIP system, some means of on-site
energy production are recommended. Wind generation
seemed like a logical choice for Oklahoma.
Research showed that while feasible elsewhere, like
California (Walter, 1992) it would not be practical on
the Choctaw site. To generate signi®cant amounts of
power, wind turbines require a large area, something
the Choctaw site does not have in signi®cant amounts.
Also, turbines generally cannot operate safely at wind
speeds above 50 mph (Lyle, 1994). Oklahoma winds
are erratic and often exceed that limit.
