Data are presented from a series of experiments that each
included common treatments to provide replication over time.
Experiments were repeated once and representative data are
shown. Depending upon the experiment, 20–25 replicate flowers
were assigned to each treatment. Flowers in vases were arranged in
a completely randomized block design for evaluation. Disease incidence
data were presented as binary responses; either infected (1)
or not infected (0). Pairwise comparisons between treatments were
completed using Fisher’s exact test (two-sided) with the MULTTEST
procedure of SAS (Version 9.1; SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC). The Bonferroni
adjustment was used to control the overall Type I error rate
for each experiment (Miller, 1981).
