Hazard Vulnerability Analysis
JCAHO requires accredited health care facilities to assess proactively their vulnerabilities in order to improve disaster readiness.
The analysis should be performed annually or amended if there are significant changes that could affect the analysis.
The facility should be using the information gathered from the Hazard Vulnerability Analysis to refine its emergency preparedness plan, based upon logistics specific to the organization.
A full vulnerability analysis requires the skills and knowledge of many different professionals. The clinical engineer can contribute to the assessment in collaboration with, among others, structural engineers, radiation specialists, plumbers,
and electricians.
