An increasingly complex web of airline alliances overlies this hierarchy of hubs. All of the major airlines in Southeast Asia have formed partnerships with airlines from other world regions. Thai International, for example, is tied into the globe-encircling nine-airline Star Alliance (the other members are Air Canada, Air New Zealand, All Nippons Airway, Ansett Australia, Lufthansa, SAS, United, and VARIG). Malaysia Airlines is linked to Virgin Atlantic.
