Coffee agriculture and future water availability
Food security and water availability for agriculture have
become important topics in the wake of global climate change.
Recent models of climate change have led many to speculate about
the impact of climate change on agriculture due to increased
variability in key climate factors (Appendini and Liverman, 1994;
Fischer et al., 2005; Gregory and Ingram, 2000). Additionally, crop
production in certain regions may be at risk in the future due to
increasing competition for water because of reduced availability
(Rosenzweig et al., 2004). Changes in precipitation and water
availability will be especially damaging to production in tropical
rainfed systems (Rosenzweig et al., 2004). This change in water
