Reference measurements were taken from the area of the fruit where spectra were acquired, using conventional destructive methods. Destructive measurements of individual avocado maturity parameters, including moisture, dry matter and oil content were carried out immediately after acquiring NIR spectral data. Two cores were taken from the marked area of the fruit around the equator using a 15 mm diameter steel corer. The exocarp, seed coat and the seed were removed before snap freezing mesocarp sample in liquid nitrogen, lyophilized and then stored at −20◦C for further
analysis.
