Palliative care
As told to Isablla Bannerman by Dr.Catherine Bannerman
Dr.: It has been a part of my job for more than 2o years.
In hospice, we talk about a “good death” for most that means quiet, comfortable, at home, with family.
Older people are usually not afraid of dying.
They are afraid of pain, disability and of being alone.
Too many people die in intensive Care Units, where there are painful, intrusive devices, and no privacy.
Dr.: I wish I could get across how important it is to make your wishes known before you get sick.
