THAI DEPARTMENT
Under the guidance of Thai Principal Archarn Kamoon Komasatit, the Thai Department of RAIS has succeeded in preserving the essential characteristics of the Thai culture which Thai teenagers can easily learn in an international environment. The Thai Department also helps foreign teachers and students understand the “Thai ways of life” so that they, from various backgrounds, also learned to appreciate Thai culture.
THAI WISDOM AND CULTURE SUBJECTS FOR HIGH SCHOOL
Vision
Learning Vision of Thai wisdom and cultural subjects are essences which emphasize process and systematic management: develop creativity in designing skills and tactical work, utilize natural resources and use power economically and worthily. To achieve this vision, Thai wisdom and cultural subject areas determine the learning process which holds systematic management and problem solutions. The learners will be cultivated morally. Learning from working and solving problem of Thai wisdom and cultural subjects are learning process which integrate knowledge, skills, and morality. These are integrated to students' traits according to learning standards.
QUALITY OF LEARNER
The content knowledge of Thai wisdom and culture are the following:
- Content 1: The Art of Thai Dancing
The essence of Thai art dancing is to encourage students to express themselves. The learners will develop confidence, good traits, good social relationship with others and integrate Thai culture in their lives. At the same time, they will be able to understand and accept the social regulations.
- Content 2: Thai Food
The essence of Thai food indicates nutrition. Thai herbal properties include dominant features of Thai food which prevent disease. The students are encouraged to develop variety of Thai recipes that utilize local raw materials in season in order to gain the full nutrition and the flavor that the new generation prefers. Moreover, it will renew economy from community level to national level.
- Content 3: Thai Embroidery
Thai embroidery deals with selection tools to mend, patch, and modify clothing properly. This skill will help students develop their lives concerning clothes and clothing efficiently.
- Content 4: Thai Handicraft
Thai Handicraft emphasizes creativity, meticulousness, and preservation. It is based on process and technology. It preserves the art and cultural tradition which produces folk wisdom, both local and universal.
THAI LANGUAGE AND CULTURE SUBJECTS FOR KINDERGARTEN – GRADE 8 Rationale
Due to the present situation, there are some changes in culture which affect society and economy. It results to complexity of culture and language. Civilization affects Thai language and its identity from the impacts of these changes. For this reason, the learner needs to improve his communication and comprehension.
It is very important to preserve Thai language as identity of the nation for the learners to enhance their communication skills and be able to live in the society peacefully.
The school sticks to the core curriculum prescribed by the Ministry of Education to be in harmony with school's philosophy, the desires of parents and the needs of community. By emphasizing communication, teaching Thai culture is included in teaching of Thai language. This can be flexible depending on the suitability and ability of the learners.
Educational and Instructional Planning
The Lingual and Cultural Curriculum for students of Ramkhamhaeng Advent International School is an integration of 4 skills which are divided into units.
Levels of students are divided according to their basic abilities:
1. Beginners are students who cannot speak or understand Thai.
2. Intermediate students are those who can speak and understand Thai but cannot read very well.
3. Advanced students are those who can listen, speak, read and write Thai.
To divide levels of students' abilities, various ways are used such as interview, consideration of previous score, present score, observation, examinations, etc.
After a series of classes, teachers may be assigned to another class they are suitable with depending on the students’ progress.
