He could feel the dreamland calling for him, but Akashi fought against its clutches. It was rare that he managed to have time alone with her lately; as his schedule for the past month had been filled with nothing but business meeting after business meeting and paperwork he had to finish, he hadn’t been able to spend much quality time with her. She understood he had his responsibilities to fulfil, she really did (and Akashi could clearly see her sincerity in her rose-coloured eyes), but he wasn’t oblivious to the loneliness that occasionally flitted across her face and the sad smiles she sometimes adorned.
When his eyelids fluttered shut for the umpteenth time despite his many attempts to resist the urge to simply fall asleep, Akashi groggily lifted his head up towards her, ready to suggest they do something more proactive to stay awake. To his surprise, however, he was stopped by her hands, one pushing his head back down into her chest and the other delicately placed at the small of his back with enough force to still him.
"Sleep," she whispered, her breath ghosting over his ear.
If it were anyone else, Akashi would have glared down at him for daring to order him, regardless of his state of health. But because it was her, he simply complied. He was just so tired. And if her request wasn’t enough to lull him to sleep, the gentle stroking of his hair did the trick.
The last thing Akashi remembered before he succumbed to the darkness, was the feeling of a quilt gently being wrapped around him, her scent as he snuggled deeper into her warmth that enveloped him, and a tender soft kiss placed on the crown of his head.
