With this work, it has been verified that the best type of bark substrate for the development of T. atroviride SC1 is a mixture containing equal proportions (v/v) of pine, fir and larch bark. This mixture is often available in the forests and sawmills of Trentino and is preferably collected by growers. The ability of the biocontrol agent to remain viable in the bark mulch for a long time following a single application is very important, otherwise growers will need to employ more expensive and complicated application practices, such as using a pole to apply Trichoderma directly in the soil near
the roots of plants. This type of inoculation method requires a specific device and several applications over time, which increases the cost for the grower. Trichoderma could even be applied in the fields through irrigation systems (e.g., drip irrigation/fertigation). This represents another easy and cheap way to apply the biocontrol agent to the rows of plants. In any case several applications should be made each year to maintain a high level of Trichoderma in the soil by using this method
