Basics of treating poor nutritional status
1.Eat little and often,including snacks between meals
2.Fortify foods and drinks adding high fat or high sugar ingredients(e.g.butter or margarine on vegetables,grated cheese on potatoes,dried milk powder in full-fat milk,cream in soup,extra sugar or honey on porridge or cereals)
3.Choose preferred foods and drinks
4.Avoid diet,low-fat and low-sugar foods and drinks
5.Avoid water as a drink and instead choose plenty of high-calorie drinks(especially full-fat milk and milk drinks)
6.Avoid drinking with or shortly before meals (although a small alcoholic drink before a meal can help to stimulate appetite)
7.Eat in a pleasant environment and with company if possible
8.Present food well
9.Avid rushing meals or snacks
